WWE officials have started Alexa Bliss very strongly on Raw out of the gate, only some weeks after her move to the brand of SmackDownduring the “Superstar Shakeup.” Alexa got over to Raw already a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion, but she’s become the first woman in WWE history to hold the Women’s Championship for both brands. WWE fans did shock to see her win that honor over Charlotte Flair.
Bayley, who is the SmackDown Women’s Champion, allowed Alexa Bliss. It was not their first appointment as the two women locked points in two pay-per-view matches in history. The Goddess had two victories in two matches against Bayley but the end changed the trend at Stomping Grounds. Though Nikki Cross occurred in Bliss’ corner, Bayley managed to pin the five-time Women’s Champion.
It’s now being reported that WWE officials are determined to make Alexa Bliss the top female heel in Raw’s Women’s division, especially now that Charlotte Flair has been left to SmackDown Live. WWE officials elected for Bliss to win the Raw Women’s Title because the match was held in San Jose, which is Bayley’s hometown. Recently, WWE officials have had a history of booking the hometown hero to lose.
Bliss has never been a babyface on the main roster, which is extraordinary recognizing how over she’s forever been with the crowd, while Bayley, despite having a tumultuous rollercoaster ride of the main roster run, has never done foot. While many feel that Bayley is a more natural babyface who “can’t pull off a heel turn,” the same could have been said of Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan, who both must develop into phenomenal antagonists.
Possibly, Vince McMahon believes that beating or confusing a babyface in their hometown is a perfect way to get foot heat on her rival. That’s exactly why Sasha Banks lost the Raw Women’s Title in Boston last year during the feud with Charlotte. The similarly logic applied to Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley at WWE Payback and the former drove out of San Jose as the champion. Now, Bliss has established herself on Raw overnight.
Bayley eventually operated into control, gaining unusual offense on Bliss in the ring and using out Cross on the outside with a suicide dive. As Bliss was in trouble, Cross made the blocked tag to heal her teammate but ran into more offense from Bayley. Bayley locked in a deathlock submission, and as Bliss got in to break the hold, she dodged a kick from Bliss and locked her into a cross, momentarily holding both women in resignation before the hold was broken up. Bliss eventually got away and then broke the hold.
